Animal Models

Validated and high-quality animal infection models are critical for successful development of drug and vaccine candidates. IBT Bioservices has established 15+ highly relevant infection models (rodent) for pathogens up to Biosafety Level 2 (BSL- 2) containment in-house and BSL-3 and BSL-4 models through partners. Our staff has decades of combined experience working with viral and bacterial infections in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 settings.

We have conducted hundreds of studies in rodent models and have experience implementing complex projects to evaluate antiviral efficacy and immunogenicity. Our selection includes robust model for valuating efficacy against a variety of influenza strain, including H1N1 and H3N2. Developed using inbred BALB/c mice our influenza infection models are a convenient and efficient tools for lead identification and preclinical analysis of safety and efficacy. We also offer an RSV infection model  using Cotton rats validated using strain A2. Our animal models have many preclinical applications including dose range finding, efficacy testing, evaluation of disease pathogenesis and synergistic efficacy. These standard models can be optimized to address client specific needs to test candidates against specific subtype/strain of pathogen or a new model can be custom developed for your specific project. In addition to animal infection models IBT offers immunogenicity and PK testing services. The suite of in vitro analysis we offer includes cytokine and biomarker induction, immune responses, drug bioavailability and half-life, gross toxicity, microbial burden or viral load in tissue and serum, and more.
