Assay Details

This assay tests the neutralization capacity of samples against S. aureus bi-component toxins (leukocidins and gamma-hemolysins) in a neutrophil-like induced HL-60 cell line. Leukocidins act synergistically in pairs to induce damage of monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils. Gamma-lysins also act synergistically but affect leukocytes as well as red blood cells.

We can test the neutralization ability of serum samples against the different toxin pairs Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL or LukSF), leukocidin ED (LukED), gamma-hemolysin HlgCB and gamma-hemolysin AB (HlgAB).
